MAN LEFT FOR DEAD IN HIT-AND-RUN HORROR
A MAN has suffered potentially life-changing injuries after being left for dead in a hit-and-run.
Police have launched an appeal for witnesses after 44-year-old Carl Williams was left with serious injuries when he was struck by a car on Chester Street in Mold yesterday morning.
The driver of the vehicle fled the scene of the crash, leaving Mr Williams, who is from Mold, with a number of serious injuries.
A police spokesman said: “We are appealing for information after a man sustained serious injuries in a collision with a car in Mold.
“The incident happened at around 3.30am today, November 23, near the Chester Street entrance to the Livestock Market. The driver of the Black Renault Megane abandoned the vehicle nearby and fled the scene.
“The victim, a 44-year-old local man, has been transferred to hospital in Stoke.”
Det Insp Iolo Edwards, from North
Wales Police, said: “This was a serious incident in which a man has sustained serious, possibly life-changing injuries. We are in contact with the victim’s family and we are appealing for anyone who has any information or who may have witnessed the incident to come forward.”
Paramedics took the man to Wrexham Maelor Hospital yesterday morning, before he was later transferred to the Royal Stoke University hospital – a major trauma centre.
An alleyway off the road, and access to the Mold livestock auction, were cordoned off behind police tape while officers investigated the incident.
Within the livestock auction grounds, several yellow markers were placed down on the ground close to indistinguishable items by forensic officers.
The incident has caused shock in the community.
One local business owner said: “I came down at about 7.15am and I couldn’t get through because the road was closed. I had to ask the policeman if I could get through.
“I was very surprised with what’s gone on, but what has actually happened I don’t know.”
Police activity at the scene came to an end at around 1pm.
