SWANSEA University remain a point clear at the top of JD Cymru South in their bid for a third successive promotion after a thumping 4-1 over Briton Ferry Llansawel at Old Road.

Two early goals from Marley Bishop-Wisdom put the students in the driving seat before Arion Sobers-Assue gave them a threegoal cushion.

An own goal from David Thomas just before the break offered Ferry hope but Thomas Johnston added a fourth two minutes after the re-start to put the result beyond doubt.

The home side then had Sam Baker sent off 12 minutes from time for a second booking to compound their misery.

It is now back-to-back defeats for Briton Ferry against the university side having been top of the pile at Christmas. They are now third and six points back having also played a game more.

Haverfordw­est County, though, are still a point behind the students with a game in hand after a 1-0 win at Llanelli Town.

An early goal from Nicky Palmer secured a hard-earned win for the Bluebirds while, by contrast, it is now three defeats on the spin and seven without a win in the league for Llanelli – a run going back to 1 November.

STM Sports, in fourth, are nine points back on the students with two games in hand after their 2-1 win at home against bottom side Caerau Ely.

Second half goals from Callum Bateman and Ben Ahmun bagged all three points for STM, with Josh Spencer replying for the visitors – who remain without a win in the league this term.

Taffs Well remain in the bottom three after Callum Davies’ 90th minute own goal saw them slip to a 3-2 defeat at Llantwit Major.

It was harsh on Taffs Well, who had earlier been 2-0 down after Rob Jones’ first half double for the hosts – before two quickfire goals in the final 10 minutes from Bradley Millward and Adam Ward looked to have snatched a crucial point for the visitors.

Elsewhere Vaughan Fowler struck late to earn a point for Pontypridd Town as they drew 2-2 with Cambrian & Clydach.

Pontypridd had drawn first blood through Tyrrell Webbe’s third minute goal before goals either side of the interval from Liam Reed and Sam Jones for Cambrian.

Elsewhere Undy Athletic got the better of Gwent neighbours Cwmbran Celtic for the second weekend running,

Dan Jarman and Gareth Cullimore earned Undy a 2-1 win over Celtic – for whom Chris Ham replied.

Elsewhere a brace from Jack Hurley plus a goal from Ben Symons secured a 3-2 win for Afan Lido at Goytre United. Liam Griffiths and Keane Watts were the home side’s goalscorer­s.

In other action, Trefelin BGC moved seven points clear in Nathaniel Cars Welsh League Division One after they beat Monmouth Town 2-0. Jamie Latham and Scott Tomlinson grabbed the goals. The win edged them further ahead at the top after Risca United slipped to their first league defeat of the season, going down 2-1 at Goytre.

Rameer Outlaw and Matt MacDonald found the net for Goytre with Sam Palmer scoring for Risca.

Welsh League Division Two leaders Ynysygerwn ran out 4-1 victors at Treharris Athletic Western thanks to the efforts of Callum Wright, twice, Alex Williams and Nathan Davies.

Trethomas Bluebirds beat Treowen Stars 1-0 and remain just a point behind.

Newport City won 3-1 at Aberdare Town with Sedric Lokola at the double.
