Wales On Sunday

How they rated

- BY GLEN WILLIAMS

ALEX SMITHIES

Did well to save the initial penalty and was not at fault for any of the Carlisle goals. Made some solid saves throughout.

CAMERON COXE

Was at fault for the second goal and looked a little flustered at times. But made a goal-saving block in the second half and grew in confidence.

SEAN MORRISON (CAPT)

A welcome return to the side for the City skipper. Was calm and composed when the hosts went down but struggled when it opened up late on.

SOL BAMBA

Again at fault for Carlisle’s first after his clumsy challenge on Jack Bridge gave away the penalty.

JOE BENNETT

Was a real threat for the hosts all afternoon. Looked to have his attacking mojo back with his marauding runs and excellent crosses.

WILL VAULKS

An average outing for the Welshman. Was impressed by his leadership in the absence of Marlon Pack and he had a couple of decent efforts.

LEANDRO BACUNA

Uncharacteristically clumsy in possession for the midfielder. Not his finest afternoon in a City shirt.

GAVIN WHYTE

His industry has been missed in recent weeks. Some quality lacking at times but turned home a fine header to equalise.

JOSH MURPHY

A real game of two halves for him. Couldn’t get going in the first and was fouled a lot, but stepped it up after the break and influenced the game.

DANNY WARD

Had a couple of frustrating moments in the first half in front of goal but had one fine shot saved well by the goalkeeper.

STAR MAN CALLUM PATERSON

Has been a fringe player this season but gave the manager food for thought. Played a starring role in both goals and proved a real handful in attack.

SUBSTITUTES

Lee Tomlin (on for Coxe 78) 5: Was brought on to produce some magic late on but his attempts failed and he lost possession a couple of times.

Robert Glatzel (on for Ward 78) 5: Was given a couple of opportunities to score late on but his efforts were denied by the Carlisle defence.
