Wales star Fishlock to be recalled by American club

-

WALES midfielder Jess Fishlock is to be recalled from her loan at Reading in April by American parent club OL Reign.

Cardiff native Fishlock, 34, joined Women’s Super League side in August to aid her return to full fitness after recovering from ACL surgery, with America’s National Women’s Soccer League on hiatus at the time.

Fishlock’s loan with Reading will end on April 5. She is set to attend a Wales Women’s camp that month before travelling back to Seattle to re-join the club she joined in 2013.

Wales’ most-capped footballer Fishlock said: “I will be giving everything for Reading until my last day with the club, as they have been brilliant with me and I am thankful for the opportunity they provided.

“I am very, very excited for the NWSL season. I cannot wait to get back and join my gals for the season.”

OL Reign CEO Bill Predmore said the recall is best option given Covid challenges of international travel, including quarantine.

He said: “The time Jess has spent with Reading has helped her fully recover from the ACL injury she suffered in 2019, which should allow her to return to our club in mid-April in optimal condition.”

“Reading have been brilliant with me and I am thankful for the opportunity they provided.”

The new NWSL season is set to begin in May.

Wales’ 2023 World Cup qualifying campaign is due to begin in September, and they are set to learn their opponents after a draw on April 30.

Fishlock has been part of a 26-player training squad over the past week at the Vale Resort - the first since Jayne Ludlow departed as manager.
