I’M NOT IN LOVE (15)
IS there a market for the blokey relationship comedy? Writer-director Col Spector clearly thinks so, judging by his third film about commitment-phobic British men.
Developing themes from his early films Honeymooner and Someone Else, this gender-flipped Sex And The City finds 30-something Rob (Al Weaver) in the horns of a dilemma.
For years, the London nutritionist has been sort of happy with girlfriend Marta (Cristina Catalina).
Sparks don’t fly but he thinks they’ve been rubbing along well enough until he overhears her chatting to her best pal Lena (Sinead Matthews).
It seems Marta has been secretly yearning for him to pop the question.
But Lena thinks the manchild is a lost cause and, if Marta wants a baby, she’d better put herself back on the market.
So Rob seeks counsel from his best friends. The married ones think it’s time for him to settle. Marta may be a little boring but he’s unlikely to find anyone better now.
His over-sexed single pal Chris (Morgan Watkins) has other ideas and pushes him into a series of wildly misjudged dates behind Marta’s back. The dialogue should be funnier but the film is well cast and slickly shot.
And the insecurities about love and marriage ring uncomfortably true.
