1 AN EDUCATION (2009)

THIS breakthrou­gh movie role saw Carey as 1960s teenager Jenny Mellor who has an affair with a playboy nearly twice her age. The film was based on writer Lynn Barber’s memoir and Nick Hornby, of About A Boy and High Fidelity fame, wrote the screenplay.

Carey was just 22 when she landed the role of Jenny.

2 WALL STREET: MONEY NEVER SLEEPS (2010)

DIRECTOR Oliver Stone’s sequel to his 1987 Wall Street film saw Carey playing Winnie Gekko – the daughter of supposedly reformed trader Gordon Gekko, played by Michael Douglas. The action takes place in New

York 23 years after the first film. Carey’s scenes were shot around her publicity tour for An Education.

LET ME GO (2010)

SHE appeared alongside Andrew Garfield and Keira Knightley in this haunting tale of three friends who grow up together knowing that their future together is limited. The movie was based on the bestsellin­g book by Kazuo Ishiguro. Keira and Carey also played sisters in the 2005 film version of Jane Austen’s famous romantic novel Pride And Prejudice.

4SHAME (2011)

THE actress worked with director Steve McQueen and actor Michael Fassbender in this film about a sex addict and the sister who comes to stay with him. Carey said she found the role an intimidati­ng prospect and

“...sort of scary”.

GREAT GATSBY (2013)

CAREY played Daisy Buchanan in director Baz Luhrmann’s film version of F Scott Fitzgerald’s famous novel set in the roaring Twenties. Leonardo Di Caprio took the title role. Carey was attending a fashion awards dinner when she heard she had the part and said: “I burst into tears in the middle of this room with Karl Lagerfeld and all these people standing next to me.”

FROM THE MADDING CROWD (2015)

THIS big-screen adaptation of Thomas Hardy’s classic Victorian novel saw Carey as the headstrong Bathsheba Everdene who attracts three possible suitors in the shape of Tom Sturridge, Martin Sheen and Matthias Schoenaert­s. Bathsheba declares: “I shouldn’t mind being a bride at a wedding if I could be one without getting a husband.”

7SUFFRAGET­TE (2015)

THE story of a young working mother, Maud Watts, is told against the historical backdrop of the Suffragett­e movement and their struggle for the right of women to vote. Carey stopped washing her hair and wore little make-up to play Maud. It was the first film to be given permission to shoot scenes inside the

Houses Of Parliament since the 1950s.
