ANTIQUES ROADSHOW Tonight, BBC1, 7pm

FIONA BRUCE presents a special episode reflecting on the aftermath of the Second World War. The fitting setting is Coventry Cathedral, which was devastated by bombs in 1940, but rebuilt to become a symbol of hope and reconciliation.

The programme hears from a woman who witnessed the city’s blitz first-hand, while the items brought in for valuation include a ballgown and a set of handmade playing cards that offer a glimpse into the final days of the war in the Far East.

There’s also a teacup that survived the bombing of Dresden.

BABY SURGEONS: DELIVERING MIRACLES Tomorrow, Channel 4, 9pm

TONIGHT’S edition follows three women and their partners who must decide whether to put their trust in pioneering, but high-risk surgery to save their babies’ lives.

Susie is 16 weeks pregnant and carrying triplets. The babies may have a life-threatening bloodsharing condition called twin-totwin transfusion syndrome, and if left untreated there’s a 90% chance Susie will lose all three babies.

Meanwhile, Noreen’s baby has a rare condition called amniotic band syndrome, where its foot is tangled up in the lining of the womb and is at risk of being amputated.

Finally, Zoe is 36 weeks pregnant and has found out her baby has fluid building up in its brain.

MAKEUP: A GLAMOROUS HISTORY

Tuesday, BBC2, 9pm

THE Roaring Twenties is Lisa Eldridge’s favourite era for make-up. This was when modern make-up, as we know it, arrived in women’s handbags.

The First World War and the global flu pandemic were over, and women entered the workforce, more likely to make their own choices about how they wanted to look and how to spend their money.

The flappers cut their hair and put on red lipstick, and Lisa explores how this started as a shocking look for a daring few, but quickly moved through the pages of magazines and onto every high street.

Working with pharmacist Szu Cheng Wong, Lisa also recreates some authentic period recipes for foundation, eye make-up and lipstick.

JOHNNY VEGAS:

CARRY ON GLAMPING Wednesday, Channel 4, 10pm

ONCE upon a time the word glamping meant a posh camping trip, with luxurious tents available to participants.

These days it’s developed into something even fancier, with a growing number of enthusiasts turning old vehicles into incredible places to stay.

In this new four-part series, Johnny Vegas sets about

renovating a vintage bus from Malta, one of five vehicles for a proposed site in Yorkshire.

Thursday, BBC1, 9pm

WHEN Ian Wright took part in Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs in February 2020, listeners heard the former footballer and pundit describe witnessing abuse as a child and how he grew up terrified of his stepfather.

The support he received after the broadcast was the catalyst for this film.

Ian meets with social workers to find out how they are supporting and protecting children living in at-risk households during Covid-19, as well as adults and young people who have been affected by growing up with domestic abuse.
