Wales On Sunday

Here’s a few ideas for things to do...

-

WALES has entered alert level two so it means more fun activities are on the cards – with safety measures involved, of course.

People now enjoy freedom to travel and take a staycation, nonessential shops are open for business once more and hairdressers and beauty salons have been welcoming back clients, and we’ve been able to enjoy a pint or a meal outdoors at the local.

First Minister Mark Drakeford said on Friday ahead of announcing tomorrow’s restriction easing measures: “Thanks to everyone’s hard work and ongoing efforts, we can take another step towards relaxing the coronavirus restrictions and move to alert level 2 on Monday.”

Here’s what you can do from tomorrow:

■ Eat indoors at a restaurant, pub, cafe and have a pint or a coffee too.

Six people from up to six households (not including children under 11) can book to enjoy not cooking for themselves and worrying about getting rained on.

■ Go to the pictures

Cinema screens will reopen and you can see movies the way they were intended to be seen – on a big screen. With blockbusters like James Bond, Black Widow, the new Top Gun and more, there will be something you’ll want to book for. ■ Visit a museum or castle

While outdoor areas at many Cadw sites started to re-open to visitors from the end of March, as of tomorrow the heritage service will re-open indoor areas of historic sites that have already welcomed the return of visitors. The same applies for National Trust properties as staff and volunteers will welcome the return of visitors to indoor areas at some of its properties over the coming weeks, including Penrhyn Castle, Powis Castle and Garden and Newton House at Dinefwr. Not forgetting the indoors of St Fagans National Museum of History, National Museum Cardiff and National Waterfront Museum Swansea which will all reopen on Wednesday, May 19. Then opening on May 20 are: Big Pit National Coal Museum, indoors of National Slate Museum, Llanberis, and The National Wool Museum and National Roman Legion Museum in Caerleon.

■ Go bowling or play bingo

Rock and roll! Strike while the pins are hot and wear weird shoes as bowling alleys across Wales are open again for games.

■ Visit any sort of holiday accommodation you fancy

So far it’s only been selfcontained cottages, apartments etc, but now B&Bs can welcome you again, as can hostels.

■ Take the kids to a play centre Think slides, rope walkways, firemen’s poles, tumble towers, up and over pads, bish-bash bag and so on, the parents’ rainy-day saviour, a play centre, is back open once more.

■ Have more people at an indoor wedding

It’s now changed to 30 people indoors and this applies to wakes too.

■ Go abroad

International travel will resume from tomorrow with a traffic light system, aligned with England and Scotland introduced.
