Dragons stage comeback to stay in hunt for top seven

- BOREHAM WOOD...............2 WREXHAM..........................3

WREXHAM came from behind to beat Boreham Wood with two late goals to move back into the National League play-off spots.

Dean Keates’ side, who had dropped out of the play-off spots, trailed 2-0 through Kane Smith and Kabongo Tshimanga’s goals.

Reece Hall-Johnson pulled a goal back before the hosts’ Tom Champion was sent off.

Jordan Ponticelli levelled and HallJohnson’s second sealed the comeback.

Wrexham, unbeaten in seven games, move back up to fifth, while Boreham Wood are 13th.

Keates made one change from the side that secured a resounding 3-0 win over Yeovil the previous weekend.

Jay Harris failed to recover from a leg injury that forced the midfielder off against the Glovers so Paul Rutherford came back into the starting XI.

Smith had put the home side ahead after a good attack down the left-hand side and Femi Ilesanmi laid it back for the defender to score from inside the box.

Tshimanga’s shot from an acute angle squeezed past Rob Lainton to double The Wood’s lead.

Wrexham were much improved after the break and full-back HallJohnson scored from Jordan Davies’ cross.

Boreham Wood were reduced to 10 men when Champion, who had been booked in the first half, received his second yellow of the game after fouls on Ponticelli and Luke Young.

Substitute Ponticelli’s soaring header from Hall-Johnson’s cross brought Wrexham level with four minutes remaining.

Hall-Johnson bundled the ball over the line for his second goal two minutes later to complete a remarkable turnaround.

There are just three matches left for Wrexham in the race for a play-off spot, with the Reds next in action at home to top-seven rivals Notts County on Tuesday night.
