Glamorgan look for a winning end to campaign

-

GLAMORGAN complete their campaign in the Vitality Blast as they travel to the Ageas Bowl today to meet Hampshire in their final T20 game of the summer (2.30pm).

The Welsh county suffered a 74-run defeat at Sophia Gardens on Friday as Somerset sealed a place in the quarter-final.

New Zealand run machine Devon Conway batted Somerset’s full 20 overs for an unbeaten 70 from 52 balls as Glamorgan’s bowlers struggled at both ends of the innings with the visitors recording 181 for five.

In between, Roman Walker impressed with figures of three for 15 from his four overs but Glamorgan’s batsman were nowhere near as good as they were bowled out for just 107 with

First Minister of Wales Mark Drakeford watching on.

Glamorgan skipper Chris Cooke was disappointed afterwards, saying: “We were a little bit flat in the first few overs when we came out to field and it spiralled from there.

“We had a tough four-day game against Northamptonshire and although that’s not an excuse, we started flat.

“It was not a 180 wicket so apologies to all the fans who came out tonight.

“Spin in the middle overs has been our Achilles heel in this competition so we need to sort that out over the winter.

“A lot of our experienced guys haven’t stepped up and it makes it difficult to go on a run when the batsmen aren’t performing.

“Roman Walker has been brilliant and he was outstanding again tonight.

“We need to target a really strong start to this competition next season but it would be nice to sign off this year with a win at Hampshire.

“I’ll be disappointed if people aren’t motivated for that because we are still playing for Glamorgan.”
