FAKE OR FORTUNE? Wednesday, BBC1, 9pm

In 1999, Jon Swihart paid more than £6,000 for a small oil painting of a man praying in a mosque. The work had once been attributed to the 19th-century French artist Jean-Leon Gerome, who was a leading figure in the Orientalist genre of painting, but by the time of the auction it had been downgraded by leading authority Prof Gerald Ackerman and was listed as ‘Circle of Gerome’.

However, Jon is convinced it’s the genuine article – and if he’s right, it could be worth as much as £100,000.

Fiona Bruce and Philip Mould take up the case, but while they find some promising evidence, they also come across a damning letter by

Ackerman, while the cultural and historical details in the painting itself could raise more questions than answers.

MY CORNWALL WITH FERN BRITTON Thursday, Channel 5, 8pm

She may have been born in London, but Cornwall has always had a special place in Fern Britton’s heart. She first fell in love with the county as a child during a holiday to Looe, so where better to start this two-part

documentary exploring just what makes the region so special?

There will be trips to the beach, but Fern is also hoping to look beyond the bucket and spades to find out more about how Cornwall became such a unique place, with its own language, culture, traditions and ancient myths.

It isn’t long before Gary and his dad decide Teddy will be a sporting superstar – and his path to glory begins with a local tournament.

Unfortunately, the competition clashes with Teddy’s spelling bee, and ‘Daddy Caddy’ Gary knows what he thinks should take priority.

Meanwhile, Denise wants Terri to sit down with her so they can organise the forthcoming big day.

However, Terri has other ideas.
