Travel HOTEL OF THE WEEK

- BY FELICITY CROSS

The Cube, Birmingham WHERE:

The setting really is everything with this hotel. It is based in The Cube, a futuristic building nestled among Brum’s canal network behind the high-end Mailbox shopping centre and bar complex.

New Street station is a 10-minute walk away and popular destinations like Victoria Square, the Bullring and Grand Central and Broad Street are a 15-minute stroll.

EXPERIENCE:

Check-in was simple despite Covid regulations and I was swept up to my room on the 24th floor in minutes.

The view from my spacious corner suite was stunning – taking in the city and out beyond to Edgbaston.

A huge bed, coupled with luxurious heavy curtains to block all light, made for a great night’s sleep.

The decor was simple and stylish – comfy armchairs, a desk and large bathroom made for a comfortable stay.

Breakfast was served in the rooftop Marco Pierre White restaurant and I feasted on the view while tucking into tasty eggs.

A full breakfast menu is available but was limited on my visit due to the pandemic.

QUIBBLES:

The MPW restaurant is lively in the evening, with many deals and offers to get your teeth into, so the reception and lift area were uncomfortably busy with diners at times.

WHAT:

The four-star Hotel Indigo, Birmingham. Room only from £107 a night with free wi-fi. ihg.com/summer.

VERDICT: 8/10

Hotel Indigo offers a lovely stay but its beauty lies in its place in the city – you will want to get out and explore.
