Music lovers party on at the Green Man Festival
THOUSANDS of music-lovers have continued to party through the weekend, as the Green Man festival celebrates its return.
Wales’ premier music festival, held in the Brecon Beacons, proved a hit with revellers after the event marked the first such large-scale festival in Wales since the start of the pandemic.
In the stunning setting of the Glanusk Estate, stallholders, vendors, charity workers and festivalgoers were thrilled to be back after Covid cancelled the 2020 festival.
In order to attend, people must have a Covid passport (proof that they are double-jabbed) or show a negative lateral flow test result before entering the site. And while masks and social distancing are optional there is plenty of signage encouraging respect of people’s comfort levels while enjoying the music.
Highlights of the event, which started on Thursday but kicked off in earnest on Friday, include Mogwai topping the bill yesterday, and Fontaines DC and Thundercat set to take to the main stage today.
Matt Davenport, staffing the Oasis stall, a refugee charity which works with Green Man, said: “It is incredible considering four-five weeks ago it was still up in the air whether this was happening or not, to be here and see a slice of normality again is really refreshing.
“I think the organisers have done a really great job with the Covid passports and making sure people are doing lateral flows, it put a lot of people at ease.”
John Lewis, at popular coffee-stop Table Top, said: “It’s strange being back but I’m so happy. It’s exactly the vibe that we all want. ”
Kay Lovett came from France to attend. She was at the festival with pals Char, Tany and Shai.
Kay said: “I’ve come from Paris, I had tickets last year so rolled them over and it’s my only festival this year so didn’t want to miss it.”
Meanwhile couple Jacob Mulchinock and Emily Reece were at Green Man for the fourth time: “We love it, we come every year. It felt like something was missing last year, it’s so nice to be back, it feels like home. “
