Reds are up and running with a point at Moors

- SOLIHULL MOORS...............2 WREXHAM...........................2

WREXHAM got a 14th campaign in non-league underway with a 2-2 against Solihull Moors at Damson Park.

Three of the goals came in an entertaining first half with Solihull, quick out of the blocks, taking the lead.

But Phil Parkinson’s side were soon back on level terms through Paul Mullin’s penalty and a spectacular volley by David Jones put Wrexham ahead.

However, the Reds were denied victory as Moors scored a 94th minute equaliser.

Moors went straight at Wrexham and almost scored a third minute opener as Christian Dibble spilt Ryan Barnett’s low drive but Hayden was on hand to clear the loose ball off the line.

Dibble saved Joe Sbarra’s freekick as the home side continued to press but Wrexham had a superb opportunity to take a 10th minute lead as Mullin pulled the ball back for Jordan Davies who cleared the bar from inside the area.

But Moors took a deserved lead in the 18th minute.

The ball was played to Sbarra who found the top corner with a brilliant 25-yard drive.

Sbarra went close to doubling Moors’ lead but Wrexham were back on level terms after 26 minutes.

Mullin was brought down in the area by goalkeeper Marcus Dewhurst and the striker smashed home the resulting penalty.

Just three minutes later and Wrexham went 2-1 up.

Reece Hall-Johnson’s cross was only cleared as far as Jones and the midfielder’s unstoppable volley on the run from outside the area flew past Dewhurst.

Former Wrexham midfielder Kyle Storer fired wide for Moors who also saw Dibble turn Danny Newton’s shot behind. But although Moors has responded well, Wrexham had a goal disallowed for offside just before the break after Hyde headed home Luke Young’s cross.

Hall-Johnson’s cross-shot deflected narrowly wide early in the second half but the wingback was stretchered off after 76 minutes and replaced by Lennon after sustaining an injury.

Wrexham could have done with a third goal to make the game safe and it almost came four minutes from time as Mullin fed substitute McAlinden whose low drive fell inches wide.
