MORRISON PINS HIS HOPES ON HARRISON

-

ANDY Morrison is hoping Byron Harrison can provide the finishing touch his Connah’s Quay Nomads side is currently lacking as they attempt to make it a hat-trick of JD Cymru Premier League titles.

The Nomads boss was happy enough to make it three from three with a 1-0 home win over Aberystwyth Town to remain unbeaten, but he was left ruing a host of golden chances to make it an even more comfortable night.

“With the amount of chances we are creating we need to be more clinical. We had about 15 chances to add to our one goal and didn’t take any of them to kill off the game,” said Morrison.

“Jamie Insall could have had a hat-trick. The good thing is that Bryon Morrison and Harrison Webster have now received their international clearance and will be available for the next game.”

The 34-year-old Harrison has been brought it to replace the prolific Michael Wilde, who has moved on to Flint Town United after helping the Nomads win the title in the last two seasons. The 6’3” striker has played throughout the footballing pyramid during his career, starting out at Havant and Waterlooville back in 2005 and going on to play for Boreham Wood, Stevenage, AFC Wimbledon, Chesterfield, Barrow and most recently Altrincham.

A Craig Curran header on the half-hour mark was enough to clinch the three points for the champions, although goalkeeper Oliver Byrne was forced to make a last gasp save to make it three successive clean sheets and ensure his side took the win.

Haverfordwest County and Cardiff Met both picked up their first points of the season from a goalless draw, while Flint Town United made it two wins in a row with a 4-0 home hammering of Cefn Druids. The visitors had Phil Mooney sent off after 20 minutes and from there on it was pretty much one-way traffic as Michael Wilde made it five goals in his first two games for the club with a second half hat-trick. There was an eight goal thriller at The New Saints, where the home side emerged victorious 5-3 against Caernarfon Town. While Penybont and Newtown drew 1-1.
