CARDIFF City have added another new face to their squad by signing Alfie Doughty on loan from Stoke. The 22-year-old will be available for today’s Championship clash against Nottingham Forest after being registered in time. He will wear the number 18 shirt.

The former Charlton man has operated at left-back and on the left wing for the Potters this term, and is now set to battle for the left-back spot in the team.

Speaking after his signing, he told Cardiff City TV: “I can’t wait to get started.

“I haven’t had as many games as I’d have liked this season and this is an opportunity to make a name for myself.

“There’s no better place to get started - on Sky Sports against Forest, at home. That’s how I wanted it to be because I want to show the fans what I’m capable of.”

Asked to describe what type of player he is, Doughty added: “I’m someone who runs in behind. I only look forward. I’m quick and I get people off their feet. Hopefully the fans will like me.

“I was in the same situation at Charlton two years ago [facing relegation battle] and every game is a massive game. That’s why I’m going to enjoy it so much and I’m ready to do it.”

He has been limited to just 16 appearances for Stoke this season, most of which have been from the bench.

Doughty becomes Cardiff’s third January signing, following Cody Drameh from Leeds United and Tommy Doyle from Manchester City.

Ryan Wintle and Max Watters have also been recalled from their loan spells.

The Bluebirds are also on the brink of announcing the signing of Norwich City striker Jordan Hugill, with speculation rife around Kieffer Moore’s potential departure.

Cardiff are yet to receive any offers for Moore amid reported interest from Bournemouth but that could quickly change as deadline day approaches.
