WATTERS AIMING TO TAKE IT TO THE MAX

-

CARDIFF City striker Max Watters says he’s looking to build on his scoring return to the club when the Bluebirds take on Nottingham Forest today.

Watters spent the first part of the season at MK Dons, impressing as the League One side made inroads in the table.

Having been recalled to Wales by manager Steve Morison, the 22-yearold scored as a substitute in the 3-2 defeat at Bristol City.

Now Watters wants to play his part in a home victory at Cardiff City Stadium as the Bluebirds look to sink Steve Cooper’s Forest (4pm).

“It’s really good to be back at the club,” Watters said. “Being recalled from MK Dons was a massive compliment to myself, and hopefully I can contribute to the team.

“Being brought on as a sub against Bristol City, I had to change the game as much as I could. It’s a shame that we couldn’t get the result last week, but to get my first goal for Cardiff City is good for me.

“We’ll need all of the support that our fans can give us, especially now that they’re allowed back to CCS. Once they’re back in they’ll be right on our side, which helps out a lot.”

“I’ve not yet played in front of our supporters at home yet, so of course I can’t wait to play with them in the stands.”

Watters knows how important today’s game is for Cardiff in their battle to pull away from the bottom of the Championship table.

He told the club website: “At the moment our form hasn’t been the best so we need to work to get as many points on the board as possible.

“We’ve got to do our job by concentrating on our own performances, looking at this weekend hoping to earn three points. Forest are in a good place on the table, so it will be tough.

“With the team that we’ve got, we know that we can get the result. It’s been tough but we know how we want to be playing ahead of Sunday, which gives us confidence.

“At the end of the day, we’ve got a good squad in the dressing room. We’re all together and now want to get that first result on the board to push off from. Games come around really quickly, so we’ll have to make sure that we’re always thinking ahead.”

Forest come into the game in seventh place in the Sky Bet Championship table, having won all four of their competitive fixtures in 2022.

Cardiff boss Morison said: “They’ve been excellent since Steve Cooper came in. But, we’ll put our game plan in place and hopefully we’ll get a result on Sunday.

“We will continue to keep working and pushing hard. We have to keep believing and keep fighting, and we’ve got a group of players that will do that.

“Having the fans back can make a huge difference,” Morison began. “It’s always great to play in front of your supporters.

“We’re really looking forward to the game. It’s a big game and a big occasion, fans back and live on Sky. We’ll aim to give the fans something to get off their feet and make some noise about. We want them to get right behind us.

“Hopefully it’ll be a good afternoon.”

Cardiff are likely to include new loan signing Alfie Doughty in their squad after the Stoke wideman agreed a deal until the end of the season.
