MUCH-LOVED CAFE IS LEAVING THE BEACH

- LAURA CLEMENTS Reporter laura.clements@walesonline.co.uk

AMUCH-LOVED converted fishing boat selling crab and lobster rolls and fish butties on the edge of a Welsh beach is leaving its spot for the next “exciting chapter”. The award-winning Cafe Mor, which describes itself as a “solar-poweredmobile-converted-fishing-boat-seaweedkitchen” is moving from the car park at Freshwater West beach in Pembrokeshire after nearly a decade of serving customers there.

In an emotive post on Instagram reflecting on 10 years of serving food in the beautiful spot overlooking the expansive and windswept beach, made famous as the location of Shell Cottage in Harry Potter, the cafe said it was leaving with a “heavy heart”.

Owner Jonathan Williams posted: “It is with a heavy heart we are letting you all know that it’s time for Cafe Mor to say goodbye to Freshwater West.

“We have had almost 10 glorious years at this fabulous place and I’d like to thank everyone who has been part of our journey.

“Thank you to the National Trust for letting us trade here and a special thanks to my family for all their support.”

The food van, dreamed up by Jonathan as he sat at his office desk in Swindon longing for the sea, quickly established a popular following after it opened in 2010 and attracted foodies from far and wide eager to try a sea-themed menu which included the famous lobster roll and the Mor burger.

Jonathan even made several TV appearances including Countryfile, Escape to the Country and Kate Humble’s Back to the Land and the cafe picked up dozens of foodie awards along the way.

But he said that it is now “time for the next exciting chapter,” which will be announced in the coming weeks.

He also reassured customers with outstanding Cafe Mor vouchers they will be able to use them at the new location.

He added: “But for now we will be celebrating what we have achieved at Freshwater West and so we would love to see your pictures and hear about your memories of dining on the finest Pembrokeshire seafood on one of the finest beaches in the world. Freshwater West we will miss you.”
