THAT’S A REAL COASTAL STRIP!

IT’S time to get your birthday suits on as the Great British Skinny Dip makes a comeback this summer at one of Wales’ most beautiful beaches. Dozens of naturists are expected to strip off on June 25 at Morfa Dyffryn, a long-established naturist beach located on the coastline of Cardigan Bay.

The beach, which is big enough to accommodate large numbers without becoming overcrowded, is the haunt of skinny-dippers and naked sunbathers throughout the summer months, according to organisers British Naturism. It has an officially recognised nudist area of around one mile and has been popular with nudists for decades.

A real beauty spot, bathers at Morfa Dyffryn can behold views of the national park including the Rhinog Mountains – and possibly a dolphin or two in the water. While it is free for people to attend the annual all-day event, which will run from 10am to 5pm, the organisers have partnered with the British Heart Foundation (BHF) and participants will be encouraged to donate to the charity.

British Naturism said many of its events involve sponsorship and it has raised up to £26,000 for the BHF. “The day at Morfa Dyffryn is far less formal and doesn’t require tickets or sponsorship,” said a spokesman.

“But there will be opportunities to make a donation so people can contribute to a worthy cause if they wish. The connection between mental and physical health, seen by pairing relaxing at the beach with contributions to cardiovascular health, means that these sorts of days are beneficial to all aspects of our health.”

Explaining the benefits of skinnydipping, the spokesman added: “The Great British Skinny Dip (GBSD) is an initiative that helps people let go of their day-to-day cares for a short while by getting back to nature. In a world where depression and other mental health issues affect so many of us, finding a way to shrug off daily pressure is becoming more and more valuable.

“People who have tried skinnydipping or been to nude beaches will tell you it is refreshing and relaxing. The GBSD simply provides the mechanism for people to try it for themselves.”

Up to 100 people are expected to participate on the day but if there are sunny skies and warm weather this number could be much higher.
