TIKTOK STAR ON HOLIDAY FOR TV SERIES

- BRANWEN JONES Reporter branwen.jones@walesonline.co.uk

AWELSH TikTok star is set to appear on a new travel programme on Channel 4. Tara Edwards from Cardiff is a familiar face on the social media platform having garnered more than 18,700 followers over the last two years.

On TikTok Tara mostly creates content about her home city. But now she is about to embark on a new destination for new TV series Strangers on a Plane. The Come Dine With Me-inspired format will see five travellers handed a budget to entertain their companions for 24 hours.

The programme will follow the holidaymakers as they take turns to oversee the group activities during a five-day getaway. They will be responsible for decisions including accommodation, dinner plans and evening activities.

At the end of the week the group will vote on who planned the best day with the winner enjoying another week in the sun with a friend or family member. The show is set to be aired next month.

Tara said the experience allowed her to get out of her comfort zone and meet people who she would never usually cross paths with.

“Going into the show was really nerve-racking because obviously you are going abroad and not really knowing what to expect – it was all a surprise,” she said.

“They gave you some information but we didn’t find out about a lot of the details until we arrived at our destination. I think for me the experience allowed me to get out of my comfort zone. In regards to some of the activities the other contestants had planned I was a bit apprehensive if it was something that I actually wanted to do.

“But then when you actually did it, it was really fun and exciting. Another thing was the hotels we stayed in – they were probably hotels that I would never usually stay at but some of them were the best hotels I had ever seen. It was such a great experience.”

According to Tara, the programme promises to be an entertaining watch. But she said it was the connection she created with the other contestants that stayed with her.

“I think they picked a diverse group of people. Different types of people from different background that you would never cross paths with usually. We have very different jobs and lifestyles. But it was really nice because although it seemed like we were a group of friends that would never go on holiday with each other, by the end we became really close and we are still in contact with each other now. I was the only Welsh person in my group.

“To me, coming from Cardiff, there are things that make us unique and we have our funny ways and distinctive accents so it was nice to showcase that on TV. It was a good way of doing something I never expected to do. I’m proud of the way I came across and hopefully it will be an entertaining watch for the viewers.”
