Flint do Haverfordwest a good turn so Bluebirds are guaranteed a shot at the play-offs for Europe

-

FLINT Town United did Haverfordwest County a good turn as they beat Caernarfon Town 2-0.

That result, combined with the Bluebirds’ 2-0 home win over Pontypridd United on Friday night, meant they cannot be knocked off the top of the JD Cymru Play Off Conference table and will get a shot at qualifying for Europe.

A first half Jordan Davies goal got Haverfordwest on the front foot against proud Ponty and then Dan Hawkins struck a second 18 minutes into the second half to put his side within touching distance of the play-offs.

All the Pembrokeshire outfit needed after that was for Flint to do the business at home and they did that with two goals in the opening 10 minutes against the Cofis.

Jean-Louis Akpro was first on the scoresheet for the home side and then Anthony Stephens doubled the lead to end a run of three games without a win for Flint.

Bottom of the table Airbus UK Broughton picked up a point in a 1-1 draw at Aberystwyth thanks to an Adam Davies penalty 10 minutes into the second half.

Nial Flint responded from the spot for the home side four minutes from time to deny the Wingmen their first win of the season.

Bala Town slipped to a 2-0 home defeat to Newtown in the Championship Conference, while champions The New Saints handed out a 5-2 defeat to Penybont.

Declan McManus scored twice to take his season’s tally to 26 in the league.

Connah’s Quay Nomads were 2-0 winners at Cardiff Met to more or less confirm their status as runners-up. First half goals from Josh Williams and Paul Mendes carried them to victory.
