Promising back-rower signs new contract

-

THE Ospreys have retained the services of industrious backrower Harri Deaves who has signed a new contract with the Welsh side.

Deaves has been a consistent performer for the Ospreys over the past couple of seasons with his huge work rate, and his effectiveness at the breakdown standing out. The 22-year-old has made 25 appearances for the Ospreys, and is the second young talent to commit his future to the Swansea based side in the space of two days after outside-half Dan Edwards.

“To sign a new contract with the club that has given me so much means the world to me,” said Deaves. “I’m excited about what we’re building here and looking forward to achieving great things with this team.

“I’d also like to take this opportunity to thank my youth club, Pontyclun RFC, for everything they’ve contributed towards my development, my friends and family for their support, and the Ospreys Supporters Club for sponsoring me this season.”

The Ospreys have been Wales’ best side this season, and are right in the mix for a United Rugby Championship play-off spot.

“Deavesy is a promising talent who has a relentless competitive streak,” said Ospreys head coach Toby Booth. “He has the ability to influence games and a thirst for working hard.

“As he improves I am sure we will see his influence more and more.

“We’re happy that he sees his future here with us, and we believe he’s going to be an integral part of our squad in the years to come.

“With this signing, we maintain our commitment to nurturing local talent and Deavesy’s progression from the academy to the first team is a shining example of our pathway success.”

Meanwhile, Justin Tipuric returns to the Ospreys side as captain for today’s clash with Ulster following the injury he picked up away to the Dragons.

Wales wing Alex Cuthbert returns to the 23 following his injury.
