Fresh injury scare for Wales skipper Ramsey

-

CARDIFF City and Wales fans have been handed an injury scare after Aaron Ramsey was ruled out of the Bluebirds’ clash with Norwich City yesterday.

Wales captain Ramsey has been out for five months, since Cardiff’s win over Swansea City in the South Wales derby in September, but made a comeback earlier this month when he was named as an unused substitute in the win over Watford.

The 31-year-old was brought on at half-time against Preston North-End, before getting 30 minutes more in the defeat by West Bromwich Albion in midweek.

Manager Erol Bulut after that match said he hoped Ramsey would be able to start his first game against the Canaries this weekend, stating: “Aaron was many months out and he is trying really, really hard. He could start at the weekend, we never know, we will have to wait and see.

“After the last game where he played 45 minutes he was feeling good and after tonight he was also feeling good.”

However, that has not been the case. The initial hope is that the injury is not a severe one, but Bulut admitted last night he is unlikely to be fit for Tuesday’s clash with Blackburn Rovers.

“For Tuesday, Aaron, it will be difficult. I think it will be a short time, around one week. We saw in the last game, at West Brom, when he came in, it was a different game from how we started, we got a few chances to score and make it 1-1,” he said after yesterday’s defeat to Norwich.

“It would be great to have him, but if a player is injured, I cannot change it.”

The news will likely come as some concern for Wales supporters, too, with their crucial play-off matches looming. Rob Page’s side host Finland in the play-off semi-final at Cardiff City Stadium on March 21, with the winner taking on the victor of the other semi-final – Poland v Estonia – at the same venue on March 26.
