MONOLITH SPARKS UFO CONCERNS

AWELSH builder has said he was “taken aback” when he spotted what he assumed was “some sort of a UFO” at the summit of a hill. Craig Muir, who is in his 30s, found the alien structure, which turned out to be a silver monolith, during his regular morning hike up Hay Bluff in Powys.

“When I first saw it, I was a bit taken aback as it looked like some sort of a UFO,” said Mr Muir, who lives in Hayon-Wye.

“It seemed like a very fine metallic almost like a surgical steel. The steel structure was almost 10 feet long and looked perfectly levelled and steady, despite the weather being windy.”

Since there is no way to drive up to the top of the hill, Mr Muir suggested it could have been taken by a group of people or dropped off by the helicopter on its spot.

“It didn’t seem like it was chucked in there, instead it has been accurately put in the ground,” he said.

“However, there were no obvious tracks around it and one would think that there would be a lot of mess around it, but there wasn’t.”

This is not the first sighting of the mystery monolith as it has previously been seen across the UK and Europe.

Social media users have captured the structure in the Isle of Wight, the Merry Maidens stone circle in Cornwall and a few isolated parts of Europe.

Earlier this week, Richard Haynes, who saw the monolith while out running, said: “I went off towards Hay Bluff towards where the trig point is and I looked over to my right.

“I thought it looked a bit bizarre and might be a scientific media research thing collecting rainwater. But then realised it was way too tall and strange for that.

“Then I went up to it and it was about 10ft tall at least and triangular, definitely stainless steel. It was hollow and I imagine pretty light – light enough for two people to carry it up and plant it in the ground.”

Richard said he ran the route often and had never seen the monolith before, while a friend was in the spot two weeks ago and said it wasn’t there at that point.

“I did notice on Google that it’s popped up fairly recently and from what I can gather it disappears after a couple of days,” Richard added.
