Berluti’s Home & Office Objects collection builds on the maison’s mission to equip our domestic spaces as elegantly as it soles our feet
Berluti has a long history as an artisanal maker, producing finely crafted shoes, handbags, luggage and ready-to-wear garments. So it was very exciting when, last year, the Paris-based brand added homewares to its already-elegant portfolio. Its new range of desktop accessories sees everyday items recast with allure and artistry, utilising Venezia leather patinated in a palette of jewel-toned colours, sleek marble and hornbeam. Used to make bespoke Berluti shoe lasts, this extremely dense wood with a fine grain is rarely used for small-scale carpentry due to its sturdy, hardwearing properties, and is more commonly used when robust strength is needed. The collection bridges innovation and modernity with traditional craft, which is exemplified in the likes of the leather mousepad, designed to enhance digital working, while the joys of analogue working are celebrated with a smart pen tray and pencil pot carved from a single piece of hornbeam. Soft, grey-grained Bianco Carrara and black-veined Nero Marquina marbles are used for items such as a minimalist bookend and an ergonomically-pleasing cylindrical paperweight, accented with touches of patinated Venezia leather. Meanwhile, some items feature leather embossed with Berluti’s Signature Canvas, which blends the maison’s logo, taken from the shoe tree of the first pair of shoes made by Alessandro Berluti in 1895, and the undulating strokes of the house’s iconic Scritto motif. Working from home has never been such a pleasure.
