The highlight: Witnessing the masked dances and rituals of the tribes we visited. They were all different to each other but still colourful, noisy and vibrant! Must see: The Basilica of Our Lady of Peace in Yamoussoukro, which is the largest church in the world and probably the most expensive, too. Top tip: Don’t be afraid of approaching people for photos. The people are super friendly in most places and happy to have their photo taken. It’s one of the friendliest countries I’ve visited. Cautionary tale: A couple of days involved long drives, but they were reasonably comfortable. I wish I’d known... That small change is in such short supply once outside of Abidjan, as it’s customary to give change to the dancers in the villages. Anything else? It’s a surprising mix of traditional tribes and good infrastructure and hotels. Go now before it gets popular!
