■ Au­tumn/win­ter – the wet­ter sea­son sees the is­land tracks be­come boggy.

■ Spring/sum­mer – dryer, hot­ter and dustier. Bounty Day is cel­e­brated on 23 Jan­uary with a replica ship be­ing torched. Hump­back whales are spied as early as March, though sight­ings peak May-oct.
