SIR CHRIS BONINGTON
Sir Chris started climbing at the age of 16 and it has been his passion ever since. He made the first British ascent of the North Wall of the Eiger and then led the expedition that made the first ascent of the South Face of Annapurna. He went on to lead the first successful ascent of the South West Face of Everest in 1975 and reached the summit of Everest in 1985. He has written 17 books and fronted numerous TV programmes. He received a knighthood in 1996 for his services to mountaineering and is still active in the mountains with the same enthusiasm he had as a teenager.
