pic wildernesses. Unique wildlife encounters. Huge sights. For those seeking a massive adventure, Canada has it all, and mostly served up in XXL portions. But spending time here reveals another side to life in America’s far north-east: close-ups of its indigenous cultures, gold-rush history and wealth of birdlife.

To ensure visitors get the best of Canada, Grand American

Adventures’ small group tours are expertly designed to reveal both the big and the small picture. With an itinerary to suit just about every taste – from broad country overviews to specialist activities – their wide range of Canada trips take travellers on guided trails, visits to traditional villages and, of course, to the iconography that makes a visit here unforgettable.

BIG EXPERIENCE

Few tours offer a better grasp of both the macro and micro glories of Canada than Grand American Adventures’ 14-day Yukon and

Alaska Walk. The first point of call is over the Alaskan border, where you can enjoy the gold rush heritage of Skagway before heading into the forests and rocky summits of the Chilkat Peninsula. Highpoints (literal and otherwise) include a pair of peaks ( Riley and Ripinski), time with the residents of Klukwan’s Tlingit Indian Village and gatecrashing the world’s largest convocation of bald eagles at the Alaska Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve.

There’s more wild encounters to be had on the other side of the border. Grizzly bears can be spotted – from a safe distance – on the rugged trails that line Kluane National Park. These hikes will take you past 5,959mhigh Mount Logan and the jewels of the Saint Elias range, as well as the world’s largest non-polar ice field – Kaskawulsh Glacier. The high adrenaline experiences aren’t just limited to the wildlife, though; nearby TatshenshiniAlsek Wilderness Park offers thrilling river rafting as well as some fine wild hiking.

Dawson City, meanwhile, has more gold rush history and big views courtesy of its Midnight Dome. The tour’s final days in isolated Tombstone Territorial Park reveal a hiker’s mecca: a little-seen maze of lakes, peaks, grizzlies, caribou and epic views – everything you’d want from North America’s wild north-east.
