Reader Solange Hando tells us about her trip to Ethiopia where she discovered natural wonders, royal ruins and tiny villages

BOUGH DOWN

“Taking pictures as a child of my father punting on a river – while posing he didn’t realise the boat was heading for a low hanging bough of a tree. He was knocked off his feet and was left clinging to the bough dangling over the water as the boat drifted away. My family carried on taking photos and laughing.” Elizabeth Martinez

FEELING RATTLED

“While walking in Zion NP, I saw a snake by the path. I framed it in a close-up shot and pressed the shutter – nothing happened. Tried again – still nothing. Then I noticed that I needed to select ‘Macro’. Just then, a man walked up behind me. “Isn’t that a rattler?” he said. I looked at its tail. He was right. I backed away slowly!” Ian Russell

MONKEY MISCHIEF

“I was taking pictures at a monkey sanctuary and put my bag down momentarily so I could get better angles – and a monkey grabbed it! He took my water bottle and tipped it all over himself and the ground.

I did get a great picture, though. Little thief!”
