BLAZING A TRAIL
A new route highlights the people and places at the heart of the USA’S Civil Rights Movement. The Louisiana Civil Rights Trail is a series of markers around the state that share historical photographs and inspirational accounts of ordinary people who had the courage to organise boycotts and marches in the 1950s and 1960s.
Look out for markers at the Old State Capitol in Baton Rouge, the destination of a 169km march from Bogalusa; Dooky Chase, a restaurant in New Orleans where peaceful protests were planned, and Little Union Baptist Church in Shreveport, where Martin Luther King once preached. louisianacivilrightstrail.com
