Internatio­nal dialling code: +7 Currency: Kazakhstan Tenge (KZT) Getting there: Direct flights to Nur-sultan from the United Kingdom are currently suspended, but you can fly via Moscow (the fastest route), Istanbul or Tashkent. The airport is around 17km south-east of the city centre. Public buses run every 15 minutes, and the journey takes around 45 minutes. Taxis complete the journey in half an hour.

Getting around: The easiest way to get around Nur-sultan is by taxi, and the Yandex taxi app is the local equivalent of Uber. Public buses are cheaper but slower, and the signage is written in Cyrillic, which can pose a challenge to visitors.

Festivals: Kazakhstan celebrates Capital City Day on 6 July, and the biggest celebratio­ns are in Nur-sultan. There’s a military tattoo with parades and concerts, including from foreign bands.
