RUNNERS in the West Midlands and cyclists in Warwickshire are some of the fastest in the UK.
According to data from Strava, an app and website allowing cyclists and runners to log their workouts, runners in the West Midlands logged an average pace of 5 mins 29 secs per km on their runs in 2016, one of the fastest averages in the UK.
Overall, runners in the West Midlands logged 334,136 runs in 2016.
Cyclists in Warwickshire are also among the fastest, logging an average speed of 24.02km/h, around 14.9mph, on their rides.
Across the UK cyclists logged 27.4 million rides throughout the year, totting up 800 million km along the way.
An unseasonably high 25C was recorded on May 8 resulting in that day becoming the year’s most popular day for a ride.
