Awards will hand youth sport a big charity boost
OFFERING a fantastic way to celebrate the region’s sporting community, the Coventry and Warwickshire Sports Awards 2018 are set to be held at the city’s Ricoh Arena on November 29 in what promises to be a night of celebration.
As well as an evening of award presentations, the ceremony will also see funds raised for a worthy cause. The chosen charity at this year’s event is the Lord’s Taverners, an organisation with the goal of enhancing the lives of disadvantaged and disabled young people through sport and recreational activity.
Impacting the lives of many young people, through its work the Lord’s Taverners brings sport to young people by offering practical solutions such as adapted minibuses, creating outdoor play spaces and running community programmes.
Funds will be raised on the night through a mix of fun, interactive fundraising activities, including standup bingo and a silent auction which is sure to include many sought-after items such as sporting memorabilia.
Held at the Ricoh Arena, home to Wasps Rugby Club and where Coventry City FC play, the venue provides the perfect backdrop to the evening. Thirteen awards will be presented on the night, including the Professional Young Sportsperson of the Year Award which is sponsored by event hosts, the Ricoh Arena. Other awards include:
Hosted by Olympian Gail Emms MBE and sports broadcaster, Gary Newbon, the sparkling evening event sees sporting heroes from across the region, including some famous faces from the world of sport, come together for a fabulous evening of recognition of the region’s outstanding grassroots and professional sporting activity.
