Prince William to make first trip to Isles of Scilly during two-day visit

-

PRINCE William is set to make a two-day visit to Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly this week. While he is returning to a site he previously visited on the mainland, it will be his first official visit to the islands since assuming the title of Duke of Cornwall.

He has a busy schedule planned, with engagements in Newquay today and on the Isles of Scilly tomorrow.

Today he will be paying a visit to the Nansledan development near Newquay, where the Duchy of Cornwall’s first homeless housing project is set to be built.

The initiative, in partnership with Cornish charity St Petroc’s, aims to provide 24 properties and support for those without a home, and the Prince is expected to meet the project’s leaders and St Petroc’s chief executive Henry Meacock.

Construction is due to start in September, with the Duchy providing the land and using its design and development management expertise to guide the delivery of the project as a whole.

Completion is scheduled for the autumn of 2025.

A spokesperson for Kensington Palace, the Prince’s official residence, said: “The homes are designed to be in keeping with the quality and character of Nansledan, to provide residents with dignity and help them settle into their new community from day one.

“The innovation the Duchy has embedded into the design will mean that the homes will be built to Passivhaus standards of energyefficiency and sustainability.

“The first phase will focus on creating high-quality temporary accommodation that feels like home, with a clear pathway to a permanent home as accommodation becomes available. St Petroc’s will also be helping resident harness the benefits of an active and growing community in Nansledan where training and employment pathways exist, alongside more permanent housing solutions.”

Afterwards the Prince will head to Fistral beach to meet representatives of organisations responsible for its upkeep and safety.

“The Duke will first spend time with Holywell Bay and Newquay Surf Life Saving Clubs, which train volunteers to save lives and prevent drowning in open water”, his spokesperson said.

“Surf life saving clubs around the country educate young people from the age of seven to keep themselves safe and to help others in difficulty.

“Operating out of Fistral Beach between May and September, the Newquay club is run in three age groups: Nippers, youth and seniors.

“The Duke will meet members of the clubs as demonstrations of training programmes take place on the

beach.

“His Royal Highness will then meet lifeguards and staff from the RNLI, who provide a seasonal service to Fistral Beach, to hear about the work they are doing to keep local people and tourists safe as they get set to enjoy the summer season.

“This year the RNLI is celebrating its 200th anniversary, having been formed in 1824.

“During his visit to the beach the Duke will also have the opportunity to meet members of the public.”

Tomorrow he will embark on his first official visit to the Isles of Scilly since becoming Duke of Cornwall in September 2022.

His itinerary includes a visit to St Mary’s harbour, which is managed by the Duchy and serves as a hub for passenger and freight vessels.

He will spend time with harbour operators before making his way to St Mary’s Community Hospital, which offers both inpatient and outpatient clinics for both residents and visitors. The Duchy is collaborating with the islands’ council to construct a new integrated health and social care facility on land it owns adjacent to the existing hospital.
