Blue Tigers eye Lion Craig

Livingston defender Craig Smart received a surprise call-up to the Indian national football team.

The 20-year-old full-back made the headlines in the March 14, 1996, edition of the Courier - and admitted he thought the whole thing was just a wind-up.

While Craig was born and bred in Dunfermline, his grandfather was born in India.

Craig said:“I thought the whole thing was just a wind-up at first but it’s all genuine and I’ve had contact with Delhi.

“It’s too early to start thinking about playing for the Indian national team but it would certainly be an interesting and enjoyable experience.”
