One of the largest gym facilities in West Lothian has been officially opened.

Xcite Linlithgow has undergone a massive renovation programme this year which has resulted in the facility having been extended and improved.

And its gym - thought to be one of the largest non-privately owned in Scotland - has doubled in size.

The project was carried out in two phases and invited guests were given a tour of the revamped facility recently before it was officially opened by chair of the West Lothian Leisure Board, Dr Cindy Brook, and Executive Councillor for Culture and Leisure, Dave King.

The renovation at Xcite Linlithgow has doubled the amount of equipment on offer, all of which is brand new.

There are two new fitness studios for classes and an additional 150 car park spaces along with renovated changing and toilet facilities.

Dr Cindy Brook said: “The facility has been transformed and we are very proud of the work that has been carried out. This is a very exciting project which has transformed the gym and fitness facilities.

“We have been able to put in place what our customers wanted by listening to their feedback.

“This includes the increase in the types of equipment available and addition of the fitness class studios. We now have a large, modern gym area plus a large amount of Technogym equipment – which is one of the best makes of fitness equipment available.”

Councillor Dave King added:“Walking around the facility you can see the huge difference and the improvements that have been made.

“Customers will notice a huge difference and there are facilities for people of all interests and levels of fitness.”

The organisers of East Whitburn and Redmill Children’s Gala Day have thanked the local community for their support.

The gala takes place on Saturday, June 18 and for the first time has a king and queen elect.

Queen Reeann Lynch ( 12) and King Craig Hannah ( 10), pupils at St Kentigerns and Whitdale Primary School respectively, will make history in a double coronation, with Pauline Andrew crowning the pair.

Aaron Potter will play the herald, ladies- in- waiting are Jo Boyle and Ellie Peden, bower girls are Freya Potter, Eva Ward, Elisha Haddow and Faikah Malik, flower girls are Sophia Brand, Sienna Brand, Dawn Hannah, Emily Hutcheon and Ellie Macpherson, fairies are Harley Greig, Falisha Malik, Skyla Bezuidenhout and Cassi Watson, page boys are Levi Bezuidenhout and Steven Daniel Bell and the retiring queen is EmmaJane McKay.

Secretary Stacey Johnstone said: “The gala day committee is humbled by the financial and practical support of the villagers, family and friends and could not do this without this backing.

“The gala day was resurrected in time for the 2013 celebrations and this small but mighty gala day has gone from strength to strength.

“The obstacle of no retiring Queen was overcome by bestowing our ‘Drama Queen’.

“She gave an uplifting and cautionary speech warning that she’d be back in the unlikely event that we could not fill pageant roles; seems like the warning worked wonderfully well as the pageant numbers have risen steadily on the past four years.

“The committee has worked hard on fundraising and since last gala day and has held a ladies’ day, hypnotist night, psychic evening and karaoke disco and a race night.

“It would be lovely to see everyone there supporting our galaday. Later in the year we will have a fundraising ceilidh and ladies’ day.
