OAPs show they have the can-do attitude
CANalympics event
Competitors at a sports day for the elderly proved they are real golden oldies.
Craigmair Care Home in Craigshill picked up first place at the annual CANalympics event which took place at Xcite Broxburn.
The West Lothian Care Activity Network ( CAN) event, which is now in its sixth year, aims to increase levels of physical activity within care settings (care homes, day care, sheltered housing, and care at home).
The day was organised by Xcite West Lothian Leisure Ageing Well project and supported by various services across West Lothian including Xcite’s Health and Wellbeing Team, West Lothian Health and Social Care Partnership, Police Scotland, and Age Scotland along with voluntary and private sector organisations.
Tesco Bathgate provided the catering for the day free of charge and brought along members of staff to distribute the teas and coffees.
The team from Braid House Day Care Centre picked up the prize in the best flag competition. Popular local entertainer Gary Copeland was on hand to provide musical entertainment throughout the event.
Teams competed in a variety of activities including hook a duck, skittles, new age kurling, parachute and sock pairing.
The winning teams were as follows: 1st Place Craigmair Interim Care Home, Craigshill, Livingston, 2nd Place Pentland View Court, Livingston, and 3rd Place went to Linlithgow Day Care Centre.
Chair of the Integrated Joint Board, Councillor Frank Toner commented: “The CANalympics is a fantastic inclusive event and a great example of how organisations can come together to stage a truly excellent fun experience for people in West Lothian’s care settings.”
