This year’s Tesco Bank Summer Reading Challenge celebrates 100 years of the world’s favourite storyteller Roald Dahl, with The Big Friendly Read. The reading challenge focuses on Dahl’s timeless themes of invention, mischief and friendship. Children are challenged to read six books during the school holidays. They can choose any six books from the library, including picture books, fact books, ebooks and audiobooks. Each completed book will be rewarded with a limited edition Quentin Blake collector card, and participants who complete the challenge will get a medal and certificate. Come along this week to register and start the challenge from Monday June 27.. Stop Smoking Craigshill`s stop smoking support group takes place in Craigshill Health Centre every Tuesday from 4.45-6pm. Contact 01506-651829. Volunteer Drivers are needed to assist older people in the Livingston area to attend local groups in West Lothian. The Cyrenians Befriending Service help alleviate loneliness and isolation in older people. Befriending is delivered by volunteers and we urgently need volunteer drivers who can spare a few hours a month. Mileage costs are reimbursed at 45p per mile. Access2Employment is based in Almondbank Centre supporting the individual so that they are equipped with employability skills that meet the needs of employers, recognising that one size does not fit all. Advisers help people to develop confidence, compile or advise on preparing CVs, provide interview guidance, assist with the completion of application forms and provide overall employability support. YWCA Girls Clubs Junior Group for girls aged 8-12years is held in Riverside Youth Wing from 5.30-7.30pm on Thursdays. Intermediate Group for girls aged 13+ is held in Neighbourhood House, 31 Canberra Street from 5.30-7.30pm on Wednesdays. All groups are £1 per week. Come along and join the fun. Programme of activities include arts & crafts, cooking, games, fun athletics, drama, dance, fundraising events and outings. We also do small workshops/sessions on many different topics to help improve confidence.
