Golfers tee up success for charity day
Four amateur golfers from West Lothian have beaten competition from teams around Scotland to win a national charity’s golf day tournament.
Captain Brian Reid, Iain Shanks, Paul Wardlaw and Kieron Davidson from Armadale, Whitburn and Stoneyburn emerged as winners at Action on Hearing Loss Scotland’s annual golfing event which was, this year, held at the Dalmahoy Golf and Country Club. The team made it round the course with a score of net 59.
The team helped raise £1800 generated at the golf day for the charity’s information and services supporting people in Scotland who are deaf or have hearing loss.
Captain Brian Reid from Armadale said: “We are delighted to win Action on Hearing Loss Scotland’s Golf Day which was a lot of fun but also had a competitive edge. The most important driver for us though was raising as much as we could for the charity, which does great work across Scotland supporting young deaf people into employment and helping older people getting used to hearing aids. We’re already looking forward to defending the trophy next year.”
As well as lifting the competition trophy, the team also won a fourball and an overnight stay for four people at Fairmont St Andrews and a Co-operative drinks hamper.
Adam Kelly, fundraising manager for Action on Hearing Loss Scotland, said: “We congratulate Brian, Iain, Paul and Kieron who were worthy winners of our charity Golf Day and are taking the trophy to West Lothian after beating strong competition by golfers from Fife down to Ayrshire. We also appreciate their fantastic fundraising effort which will go towards our work supporting people who are Deaf or have hearing loss in West Lothian and across the country to live the lives they want to.”
