Athletic in seventh heaven
Free-scoring Broxburn Athletic made it 13 goals in two games as they followed up last week’s 6-1 win over Carnoustie Panmure with a 7-3 win at home to Superleague new boys Jeanfield Swifts.
Ross Nimmo got the ball rolling after 14 minutes when he rifled home a poor clearance from the edge of the box. Nicholas Locke, who had earlier passed up a great opportunity to open the scoring, slotted home number two just three minutes later.
Kieran Anderson got his name on the scoresheet when he fired home a penalty after Locke had been fouled in the box by the visitors’keeper.
There was still time for another before the interval when Zander Miller got on the end of a Locke cutback from four yards out.
Jeanfield opened their account just two minutes into the second half when Daniel Kelly’s strike from just outside the box took a deflection past Connor Wallace in the Brox goal.
But Max Christie’s men restored their four goal lead moments later when Locke beautifully curled home a free-kick.
Anderson grabbed his second penalty after Nimmo was pushed in the box before Jeanfield were awarded a spot-kick themselves as the game entered the final stages.
Anthony Holt made no mistake before John Anderson bundled a rebound home from close range to reduce the deficit to three goals.
Wallace was forced into two stunning saves as Swifts threatened to pull off a stunning comeback.
With the storm weathered by the Brox, they promptly went up the other end and made it seven through Scott McNaughton.
