Tenants welcomed to new council homes
Bridgend housing
Tenants received the keys to their new council homes in Bridgend near Linlithgow recently.
At Bridgend, five new bungalows have been built, all specifically designed for tenants with mobility issues. They are the first council homes to be built in Bridgend since 1969. Existing housing tenants are given priority in terms of transferring into the council’s new build homes. Work was carried out by McTaggart Construction on behalf of West Lothian Council. The local authority is investing approximately £ 100 million to build 1000 new council homes. Councillor George Paul, executive councillor for services for the community, visited Bridgend tenants Mr and Mrs O’Neil this week to see their new home. We are delighted with the high quality of the new homes at Bridgend and delighted that tenants have now moved in.
It was tremendous to meet Mr and Mrs O’Neil and hear the positive impact these new homes have had on their lives. Affordable housing is in short supply across the country and our programme is delivering much need housing combined with community benefits such as apprenticeships.” Mr and Mrs O’Neill, who both have mobility issues, moved into their new bungalow at Auldhill last month. They previously lived in Bridgend but Mr O’Neill now uses a wheelchair after suffering a stroke earlier this year. They were previously unable to leave their house without help .
Mrs O’Neill said: “Moving into our new home has opened up the world for us again.
“My husband is wheelchair bound and is now able to go to the park with our grandchildren and get out and about. In our previous home, the steps meant that we couldn’t leave without help.
“The new house is gorgeous and we could not be happier with it.”
