Plans progress on Whitburn centre

- Courier reporter

West Lothian Council’s Executive Committee has approved the process for securing a contractor – a significant step forward in delivering the new partnership centre for Whitburn.

the plan is to develop the Burgh Halls on the Main street, maintaining the current historic façade, and building a new extension to replace the current arrangements to the rear of the building.

this will create a new entrance to the west elevation of the building, ensuring that the Civic square becomes a focal point for the community.

the proposals include a vibrant and welcoming open plan area for visitors which incorporates the council’s Customer Information services (CIs) office, including access2employment, together with an open plan library and community museum.

Leader of West Lothian Council, John Mcginty, said he was pleased the plans are progressing.

He added: “this is another positive step forward in delivering a new partnership centre for Whitburn, an investment of around £5 million.

“once it is completed the new partnership centre will allow local people to enjoy the same benefits of accessing services in one location which are currently available Bathgate, Fauldhouse and Broxburn.”

Whitburn Community Centre is not included in the plans for the partnership centre.
