Communities are important for SNP

-

Building houses and communities will be a key priority for a new SNP council administration. From an SNP perspective housing is about more than simply bricks and mortar. From children needing space to play and learn, to those seeking to buy or rent, to those requiring adaptations to continue living in their homes, housing touches everyone’s lives, and in different ways.

SNP believe that everyone should have a safe, warm home which they can afford, and we are committed to ensuring that this becomes a reality. Unlike Labour, who promised 1000 new homes but delivered less than 200, we will ensure that agreed timescales are met. Labour’s failure to build their promised 1000 homes meant £500,000 spent on bed and breakfast accommodation for homeless people.

SNP will commit to delivering 2000 new energy efficient council houses, to building one bedroomed properties to meet the demand from single households, ensure all our homes meet the new energy efficiency standard by 2020, install PV (solar) panels on all new build houses, commence a programme to retro fit PV (solar) to all existing stock and encourage council tenants to move to a‘lower cost‘utility provider.

All of the above will deliver tenants considerable financial savings in their household budget, tackle fuel poverty, ensure that our homes are warm and contribute towards carbon reduction targets.
