Young team has earned its plaudits but let’s not forget gaffer

- Andy Semple

How do I start the blog this week? “Championees... Championees... Ole, ole, ole... ”That seems fitting, doesn’t it ?

What an incredible run the team have been on, from the moment we went top of the league last October we haven’t looked back. Only one other team in Scotland have won more games and scored more goals than us – a record to be proud of.

Everything felt right for a titlewinning day: the sun was out, the crowd was in fine voice, so all we needed was one more big performance from this incredibly gifted young side. And they didn’t let us down.

From the moment Scott Pittman bulleted us in to the lead from 35 yards we never looked back. Take a bow son, that was an unbelievable strike.

Alloa came to spoil the party but there was no stopping it when the second great goal of the day went in. Longridge this time, usually accustomed to scoring with more delicate parts of his body but this time it was a fine curling effort into the corner.

We even had the audacity to miss a penalty and give Alloa a consolation goal to keep us all on the edge of our seats for the last five minutes.

The team are clearly a side that enjoy playing together – and playing for the management. A lot of credit has gone to the players this year but let’s not forget the job Hopkin and his team have done, as they stabilised us and got us back to where we belong.

We’ve set an incredibly high standard this season and with four games to go can we go and win them all? I’m sure that’s what the aim will be.

See you all at Stenhousemuir on Saturday for another title party.
