Restaurant staff help out with big clean up

Murieston tidy up

- Debbie Hall

A crew from the McDonald’s restaurants on Almondvale Avenue joined forces with the council and Keep Scotland Beautiful to clean up the local area.

The group embarked on the challenge to give Murieston a bit of a tidy up. The 10 volunteers from the restaurants were joined by members of the Murieston Community Council, who organised the event and starting at the village hall in Murieston, they managed to collect an impressive 70 bags of litter throughout the day.

This event is just one of a number of McDonald’s clean-ups which have taken place across Scotland as part of its ongoing support of Keep Scotland Beautiful’s Clean Up Scotland campaign since 2007.

The campaign and partnership is now in its eleventh year and continues to encourage residents of local communities to take action and work together to tackle litter in their area. Tania Armstrong from the Murieston Community Council, said: “It has been a great pleasure organising this fantastic event and it was wonderful to see so many people turn out on the day.

“We were delighted to welcome so many volunteers from McDonald’s and we appreciate their help. As a community council, we really appreciate the support of local businesses and McDonald’s certainly outdid themselves.

Local area manager, Julian Rumsey who manages the restaurants on Almondvale Avenue, added: “I was really proud to see everyone come together and help tidy up the local area.

“It’s a key priority of ours to ensure that the local area remains free of litter and an enjoyable place to live, work and visit.

“We were thrilled to team up with the Murieston Community Council and would like to thank them for inviting us to take part in a fantastic event.”
