Outlook is positive at high school
West Lothian Council is hailing progress made to deliver improvements at West Calder High School.
A recent visit by government inspectors found positive changes had been made in a number of key areas to support learning and achievement for young people since their previous visit a year ago.
Inspectors singled out the effective leadership of learning at the school, setting a clear sense of direction and purpose for the school and the overall positive relationships across the school between young people and staff.
They also praised the impact of the new Inspired Learning Space in providing young people with more creative approaches to learning and the improvements in young people’s learning experiences across the school, particularly for senior pupils.
The inspectors also highlighted continuing to improve the curriculum for S1 to S3 pupils, and ensuring that young people have opportunities to develop their literacy, numeracy and health
and wellbeing across the school going forward.
And West Lothian Council’s executive councillor for education, David Dodds, said the authority is pleased by the steps being taken at the school.
He added:“We are delighted at the progress being made at West Calder High School to improve the learning experience for pupils.
“Inspectors have recognised the significant improvements made in the last year, such as the school’s strong community links and the good work taking place to help pupils with social, emotional and behavioral needs (SEBN) feel more included.
“Work is already ongoing to deliver improvements in other areas.”
