- Marjorie Kerr

Bathgate photographers are being urged to get snap happy.

The town has links with Europe through the Bathgate/ CranGevrier Twinning Association and the French twinning committee is organising a photographic competition between its twinned towns of Bathgate, Piossasco ( Italy) Trencin ( Slovakia) and Cran-Gevrier (France).

Now the Bathgate Twinning Committee is looking for amateur photographers of all ages to take part. The theme of the competition is: The views of a European Citizen on his/her town and environment.

Many people in Bathgate, have taken part in twinning activities between Bathgate and Cran-Gevrier, such as Popskool, Newland Concert Band, West Lothian 50+ Network, Bathgate Swimming Club, Bathgate Ski Club, The Fabb Club, West Lothian College, as well as Boghall Primary School, Simpson Primary School and Bathgate Early Years’ Centre.

There will be three prizes of 150 Euros, 100 Euros and 50 Euros, for the best photos chosen by the French committee. In addition, during the exhibition of the photographs in Cran- Gevrier, the public will be asked to choose the best photo, and the winner will receive the Public Prize of 100 Euros.

Bathgate Twinning Committee will subsidise the winner to attend the Prizewinners’ Ceremony in Cran- Gevrier in October. The competition is open to all inhabitants of the twinned towns, with the exception of professional photographers. The closing date is June 30.

Entry forms and rules of the competition can be obtained from jumelage.crangevrier@free. fr. Apply in English as they have a translator.

Three photos per entry, each with a title, should also be sent electronically in a JPEG format to the email address.
