Comedian makes a homecoming to town

- Marjorie Kerr

A rising star of the international comedy scene is coming back to West Lothian for a special homecoming show.

Former Linlithgow Academy pupil Stuart Mitchell (34) is bringing his critically-acclaimed show ‘Dealt a Bad Hand’, to Howden Park Centre in Livingston on Friday, July 7, a hilarious take on dealing with life’s misfortunes and coming out the other end unscathed.

Stuart’s sharp one-liners, brilliant turn of phrase and clever wordplay has made him a perfect choice for regular appearances on BBC Radio Scotland’s comedy panel show ‘Breaking the News’.

He has written for ‘Mock the Week’ (BBC1), and ‘The News Quiz’ (BBC Radio 4) and is now working with BBC Comedy on a scripted development project.

Having studied economics at the University of Stirling, Stuart gained a prestigious placement at HMP Treasury and had a very successful career in banking which he quit to perform comedy and work for charity Sue Ryder.

He said: “I attended a comedy writing course over eight years ago and loved it! I also loved Lee Mack and never thought one day I would be touring my own show”.

He has followed in the footsteps of Simon Pegg, Dylan Moran and Dara Ó Briain by touring Australia in April as part of ‘Best of the Fest’ line up having been hand-picked at the Edinburgh Fringe.

Stuart has very quickly become one of the most exciting talents in recent years, performing across the biggest comedy clubs in the UK including the world famous Comedy Store.

He has also recently performed in Las Vegas, Los Angeles and New York where he earned an endorsement from Hollywood megastar Will Ferrell. Catch this rising star while you can. The show takes place on Friday, July 7 at 7.30pm at Howden Park Centre.

The show is suitable for audience members age 14+.

Tickets priced £12 or £10 for concessions are available from www.howdenpark.com or by calling 01506 777666.
