Kirknewton Primary the first digital award winner
New national schools project
Kirknewton Primary School is the first primary school in West Lothian to receive the Digital Schools Award.
Digital Schools Awards Scotland is a new national awards programme which aims to promote, recognise and encourage a whole school approach to the use of digital technology in primary schools.
To achieve the award schools have to complete a three step programme which has been developed to assess progress and recognise excellence in the use of digital technology at primary level while providing practical support and encouragement.
The programme is supported by industry partners HP, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Microsoft and Intel in Scotland.
Executive councillor for education, David Dodds commented: “It is a fantastic achievement for Kirknewton Primary School to achieve the Digital Schools Award. The school has clearly demonstrated that it is using Information Communication Technology (ICT) to benefit the children and their parents and carers. I’m sure that the school will continue to develop its innovative digital programmes in the future.”
Head teacher, Eileen Brown, said: “This is a fantastic achievement for the school. The children are very enthusiastic digital learners. Staff have worked hard to ensure that pupils have the understanding of digital technology which they will require as the workforce of the future.”
Aoife O’Connor, programme co-ordinator, Digital Schools Award Scotland, said: “I am delighted to inform you that Kirknewton Primary School has been successful in its application to become a Digital School in Scotland. On behalf of all the partners involved in the Digital Schools Award Scotland I would like to congratulate the whole school on achieving this award.”
